Emi Buendia Backed for Late World Cup Call-Up

Aston Villa's Emi Buendia has been backed for a late World Cup call-up after Argentina suffered an injury blow. Former Argentina international Diego Latorre has urged Lionel Scaloni to draft Buendia into his squad following defender Leonardo Balerdi's forced withdrawal due to injury.

Extraordinary Season at Villa Park

Buendia played a key role in Aston Villa's successful campaign, helping the club finish fourth in the Premier League and win the Europa League. He scored in the final against Freiburg, capping off a season that Latorre described as 'extraordinary.'

Speaking to ESPN Argentina, Latorre said: 'Buendia's season was extraordinary, extraordinary. It is true there is a lot of competition in that area and there are already established starters. But even Buendia's final stretch at Aston Villa was extraordinary. Really extraordinary.'

Why Buendia Should Be Included

Latorre has no doubts about Buendia's inclusion, stating: 'I have no doubt. For me, Buendia should come in. He is a very complete midfielder. He scores goals, he has a lot of goals in him and a very good shot from distance.'

He added: 'I have followed Buendia closely throughout the season. For me, he is a player who has to be there and should have been among the 26.'

Buendia's Villa teammate Emi Martinez is already part of the Argentina squad.
