Ex-Premier League teammate backs James Morrison to lead West Brom revival
Ex-teammate backs Morrison for West Brom job

Former Premier League teammate Gareth Barry has joined the growing chorus of voices calling for James Morrison to be appointed West Bromwich Albion manager on a permanent basis. Barry, who played alongside Morrison at both club and international level, believes the interim boss has already demonstrated his credentials and can guide the Baggies back to where they belong.

Morrison's impressive turnaround

Since taking over from Eric Ramsay, Morrison has transformed Albion's fortunes. The club is on a ten-match unbeaten streak, securing Championship safety for the second time this season despite a two-point deduction over financial issues. The safety was confirmed with a game to spare after a draw against Ipswich Town.

Growing support for permanent role

An Express & Star poll revealed that approximately 96 percent of Albion fans want Morrison to stay. Shane Long previously backed him, and now Gareth Barry has added his voice. Barry, the all-time Premier League appearance leader, played with Morrison for two seasons at West Brom.

Speaking to Midnite, Barry said: "100% James Morrison deserves the full-time job. I played alongside James and I know he loves his football. He lives for football. The one thing Albion did correctly when they gave it to him this time was to let him know he's taking the job until the end of the season. That settles everyone down, helps him making his decisions."

Barry added: "He's already done enough, the points deduction didn't affect their position. Going forward, I'd like to see him have a go at next season, bring in some players to strengthen the squad. He knows the club inside out, he'll put the commitment in to get West Brom back to where they belong, higher up in the Championship and challenging for a place in the Premier League."

With the season concluded, attention now turns to Morrison's future. The club's hierarchy will weigh the overwhelming fan support and endorsements from former players as they decide on the next permanent manager.
