A free community cricket festival is set to take place in Portsmouth as part of the city's 100-year city-status celebration. Organisers anticipate hundreds of attendees at the event, which will be held at Portsmouth and Southsea Cricket Club on Sunday, July 12.
Event Highlights and Schedule
The Portsmouth100 Cricket Festival aims to bring together players, clubs, families, and supporters from across Portsmouth and Hampshire for a celebration of cricket and community. The day's activities begin at 10am with a junior showcase, followed by a women and girls' event at noon that features a soft ball tournament. An exhibition match between Hampshire Academy and a Portsmouth Select XI will conclude the day at 3pm.
In addition to the cricket, the festival will offer inflatables, family activities, entertainment, and a variety of food and drink options.
Organisers and Community Impact
The festival has been organised by the Hampshire Cricket Board and Portsmouth City Council. According to a spokesperson, the event hopes to build on the excitement of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, which concludes this weekend. The festival is free to attend and open to all, aiming to foster community spirit and promote cricket participation across the region.
