Glenn Whelan Lands First Manager Role at Livingston

Former Aston Villa midfielder Glenn Whelan has been appointed as the new manager of Scottish First Division side Livingston. It is the former Republic of Ireland international's first stint as a full-time manager after gaining experience with the national side and at Bristol Rovers and Wigan, including two interim periods as boss.

Whelan's Playing Career

Whelan joined Aston Villa in 2017 under Steve Bruce and went on to make 73 appearances before leaving in 2019. He played a key role in helping the Villans secure promotion to the Premier League in the 2018/19 season. Additionally, he earned 92 caps while representing his country, the Republic of Ireland.

Challenge Ahead

The former Villa Park veteran faces a tough task at the Scottish club following their relegation from the top flight. However, the club will be expecting a quick return to the Premiership. Whelan replaces Marvin Bartley, who managed just one win in his eleven games in charge.
