Brighton and Hove Albion manager Fabian Hurzeler has called on his team to display 'personality and character' as they prepare for a crucial Premier League encounter against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
Recent Defeat a Learning Experience
The Seagulls suffered a disappointing 3-1 loss at St James' Park against Newcastle United in their last outing, missing several clear-cut chances. Hurzeler emphasized the need to move on quickly and focus on the upcoming fixture.
'Newcastle is done. We can't change it any more,' Hurzeler said. 'We have to look now at what is ahead of us. We have three games ahead of us. We have a big game at home against Wolverhampton and that is the focus now from us.'
Team Assessment and Injuries
Ahead of Saturday's match, Brighton are assessing midfielder Mats Wieffer, who is undergoing a scan on an ankle problem sustained during the Newcastle game. His availability remains uncertain.
European Ambitions
Brighton currently sit eighth in the Premier League table, just two points behind sixth-placed Bournemouth, with three matches remaining. A victory against Wolves is essential to keep their hopes of European qualification alive.
Hurzeler stressed the importance of accountability and resilience: 'We have to analyse this game, we have to be honest to each other and hold each other accountable. We have to show personality and character to bounce back.'
Contract Extension on the Horizon
This clash comes amid reports that Hurzeler is set to sign a new contract with Brighton. The 33-year-old, who has one year left on his current deal, has been linked with a return to Germany with Bayer Leverkusen but appears committed to the Seagulls.
Hurzeler joined Brighton at the start of last season from St. Pauli, becoming the youngest full-time manager in Premier League history at 31. In his debut campaign, he guided the club to an eighth-place finish, though they missed out on European football due to Crystal Palace winning the FA Cup. Now, he is determined to lead Brighton into European competition for the next season.
