West Bromwich Albion captain Jed Wallace has been pictured back in training ahead of the final game of the season against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough, offering a potential fitness boost for manager James Morrison.
The 32-year-old winger suffered a calf injury setback prior to Albion's recent 2-2 draw with Wrexham, ruling him out of the crucial matches that saw the Baggies secure their Championship survival.
Key role in revival
Wallace had been instrumental in Albion's turnaround under Morrison, starring in victories over Hull City and Bristol City as well as impressive performances against Sheffield United and Southampton. His absence was a significant blow, with Morrison admitting he 'could have cried' when the injury occurred.
Speaking after the Wrexham match, Morrison said: "I could've cried last week when he picked up the injury because he's been superb for us and he was a big miss on Friday. He pulled his calf in training, so fingers crossed he may be back for the end of the season."
Training return
Images from Albion's training base show Wallace doing individual running on the grass, though he has not yet been pictured training fully with the team. There is currently no indication whether he will be included in the squad for the Hillsborough trip.
Morrison is set to address the media on Friday, where he is expected to provide an update on Wallace's fitness and availability for the season finale.
Albion secured their Championship status with victories over Watford and Ipswich Town in the week following the Wrexham draw, meaning the Sheffield Wednesday match is now a chance to finish the campaign on a high note.
