Former Birmingham City star Anders Limpar has urged the club's owners, Knighthead, to resist the temptation to make sweeping changes this summer, insisting the current squad and manager deserve another chance to mount a promotion challenge.
Blues' Season Falls Short of Expectations
Birmingham City finished 10th in their first season back in the Championship, a solid but unspectacular return to the second tier after winning League One. The club had been ambitious in the transfer market, signing 12 new players with the aim of emulating Ipswich Town's back-to-back promotions. However, that dream quickly faded as Blues never seriously threatened the play-off places.
Manager Chris Davies faced scrutiny after a dismal defeat to Derby County in March effectively ended any faint promotion hopes. Yet a strong finish to the campaign helped rebuild some goodwill among supporters.
Limpar's Verdict: Stability Over Change
Speaking to Betano Online Casino, the 60-year-old Swede said: "Birmingham are a big sleeping giant, as I've said for many, many years. England needs a team like that, an area with that level of support and fans, back in the Premier League."
"This season didn't go to plan, but I'm not a fan of saying that we're going to sack players, sack managers. Let them have another go," Limpar added. "It's not just one player's fault. It's not just the manager's fault. They just need to kickstart the whole squad, the players, the team, and the staff. So you can't just blame the manager."
Limpar's comments come as Knighthead face a crucial summer of decision-making, with the club aiming to build on their first season back in the Championship and push for a top-six finish next term.
