Aston Villa's Emi Martinez Saga: Juventus Move Collapses, Suzuki Arrives
Martinez Juventus Move Collapses, Suzuki Set for Villa No.1

Aston Villa fans are questioning the club's direction after Emiliano Martinez's proposed move to Juventus collapsed. The Serie A club's £8.5m bid was rejected, and Villa have now signed Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki from Parma for around £25.6m, with add-ons potentially raising the fee to £29.9m. Suzuki, 23, has agreed a five-year deal and is expected to become Villa's new No.1, even if Martinez stays.

Juventus Pulls Out After Villa Rejects Bid

BirminghamLive understands that Juventus' offer did not meet Villa's valuation, prompting the Italian club to withdraw from negotiations. Despite the collapse, Villa proceeded with the Suzuki deal, having already agreed terms with Parma. Martinez, who was also linked with Paris Saint-Germain, now faces an uncertain future at Villa Park.

Last season, Martinez was expected to leave for Manchester United, but when United signed Senne Lammens instead, he stayed and played a key role in Villa's Europa League triumph. Villa had initially planned for Martinez to remain, with director of football operations Damian Vidagany telling 365 Scores: "The goalkeeper's future is settled, he is staying with us, and we have no intention of letting him go this summer. The team needs his efforts and extensive experience, and he is a very important element in our project for next season."

Suzuki's Arrival and Martinez's Pre-Season Absence

Martinez has not yet returned for pre-season, as he was granted a four-week break after reaching the World Cup final with Argentina. England's Ollie Watkins and Ezri Konsa also had extended time off after finishing third. With Suzuki and Marco Bizot also on the books, it seems unlikely Villa can accommodate all three goalkeepers, and Martinez may not accept a backup role.

At 33, Martinez may find limited suitors at the price discussed with Juventus, but interest is expected. Villa will now explore other options for the Argentine international, whose future remains uncertain as the transfer window continues.
