Matty Cash has no intention of sleeping after Aston Villa's Europa League triumph in Istanbul, admitting the victory has caused a sleepless night — and he couldn't be happier.
Historic Victory in Istanbul
Cash joined his Aston Villa teammates in writing his name into club folklore following Wednesday's historic triumph over Freiburg in Istanbul. The defender embarked on a mission to go on a 48-hour bender instead of going to bed.
Cash returned to the team hotel to party before boarding a plane back to Birmingham to take part in an open-top bus parade with the squad and staff.
Cash's Celebration Plans
He said: "I'm not worried about sleep, I've had enough sleep building up to the game thinking about it. I'm going to party for the next however long, the next couple of days. It's unbelievable to be a European champion. All the hard work we've put in to get to this point."
Cash reckons the historic moment could also be a watershed one for Villa when it comes to winning more silverware in the future. He said: "Yeah, for sure, I think so … I think when you experience these moments together as a team, it makes you stronger, definitely. We've gained experience as a team. To get to this moment, it is obvious that we have learnt from the past."
Unai Emery's Prediction
Cash revealed Unai Emery was so confident of landing a record fifth Europa League crown as a manager that he predicted what would happen before kick-off. He added: "We had a meeting before the game and he told us exactly how the game was going to go, what they were like. He does that much work on the opposition. I've said it many times. The reason why we play like this is because we know what we're doing when we're on the pitch."
