West Brom Boss James Morrison Credits Players for Relegation Fight
Morrison: 'It's All Down to Them' in Relegation Fight

West Bromwich Albion manager James Morrison has heaped praise on his players for their role in the club's remarkable escape from relegation, insisting 'it's all down to them'.

Resurgence Against the Odds

The Baggies have clawed their way out of the Championship relegation zone to mathematically secure their second-tier status, pending the outcome of a financial charge hearing. Morrison, who has been widely praised for his leadership, remained humble and directed all credit to his squad.

'Credit to the players for that belief and togetherness,' Morrison said. 'We've got that and it seems to be progressing week in, week out. It's all down to them. They've come through a difficult time, really, there's no getting away from it. They've pulled themselves up and it's credit to them.'

A Season of Turmoil

The Baggies endured a torrid start to 2026, failing to secure a league victory until mid-March. The year began with the final two matches under Ryan Mason, who was dismissed on January 6. Eric Ramsay took over but oversaw a nine-match winless run that saw the season unravel before he was sacked on February 24.

Morrison, in his third caretaker spell, initially suffered a defeat at Oxford but the team has been unbeaten since a crucial equalizer from defender George Campbell at Sheffield United's Bramall Lane.

Turning Point

Morrison pinpointed that moment as the catalyst for their revival. 'I'll go back to that Sheffield United game, really, getting the momentum back. We needed that one result to kickstart us and each performance has got better. The crowds have gelled with the players and the team. We got the good feeling back in and around it, but we had to maintain that with performance, fight and effort. Then the quality has come back game after game.'

The Baggies now look ahead to the future with renewed optimism, thanks to the resilience and determination of their squad.
