Tony Mowbray backed to return as Blackburn Rovers manager
Mowbray backed for Blackburn return

Former Birmingham City manager Tony Mowbray is being backed to make a sensational return to Blackburn Rovers. The 62-year-old has been out of work since leaving West Bromwich Albion in April 2025 after a brief three-month stint at The Hawthorns.

Mowbray's Recent Career

That role at West Brom was Mowbray's only job since leaving Birmingham City at the end of the 2023/24 season. He took leave in February 2024 after a bowel cancer diagnosis and was unable to return to his managerial duties. Assistant Mark Venus briefly took over before Gary Rowett was appointed on an interim basis for the remainder of the season. Mowbray stepped down in the summer to continue his recovery, and Blues appointed current boss Chris Davies as his replacement.

The vastly experienced manager always maintained his desire to return to management, which he did briefly with Albion. Now, odds are shortening on Mowbray making a return to another of his former clubs.

Blackburn Rovers Situation

Blackburn are searching for a new manager after Michael O'Neill decided against extending his stay at Ewood Park, having guided the club to Championship safety. Mowbray is 1/3 with Bet Victor to become Blackburn's new boss. Slaven Bilic is second favourite at 9/4, with Rowett at 16/1.

Mowbray spent five years in charge at Blackburn, leading the club to promotion from League One in 2017/18 and stabilising them in the Championship before departing in 2022.
