Olympiacos are in talks to sign winger Leon Bailey from Aston Villa, with the Greek club eager to secure a permanent deal for the 29-year-old. Bailey has attracted interest from several clubs during the summer transfer window, with Hull City having previously come closest to securing his signature.
A move to the MKM Stadium was initially revived but fell through once again, leaving Sevilla and a number of Saudi Arabian clubs in pursuit. Now, Olympiacos have made their move and are keen to reach an agreement with Villa for a permanent transfer.
Bailey's Expected Move to Athens
Once an agreement is reached, Bailey is expected to travel to Athens to undergo a medical and sign his contract, which would bring an end to his six-year stay at Villa. The Jamaica international was made available for transfer this summer after a challenging loan spell at AS Roma last season, where he struggled to establish himself before being recalled by Villa.
Bailey was also left out of the travelling squad for Villa's pre-season tour of the Far East and did not feature in either of the club's opening games of the season against Brighton and Arsenal.
Recent Form and Career at Villa
Last season, Bailey started just three Premier League matches, scoring once in 19 appearances across all competitions. His loan spell at Roma similarly saw him struggle to secure a regular first-team spot.
Signed from Bayer Leverkusen for a deal worth £30 million in the summer of 2021, Bailey took time to settle at Villa before producing his best form during the 2023/24 campaign. His potential departure would mark a significant change for both the player and the club.
