Plumtree Cricket Club is celebrating a major upgrade to its facilities following the successful installation of two high-tech hybrid cricket pitches. The project was completed by leading sports surface specialists SIS Pitches over three days: March 29, 30, and 31, 2026. These state-of-the-art surfaces combine natural grass with synthetic fibres to provide a more durable and consistent playing environment.
Enhanced Playing Conditions
The investment is set to significantly improve conditions for cricketers of all ages and abilities. It also increases the club’s capacity to host matches and training sessions throughout the season. Club representatives noted that the new pitches will help future-proof the ground and encourage greater participation in grassroots sport within the local community.
Funding and Support
Funding for the development was provided by Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) via the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). Nigel Finney, Plumtree CC’s chair, said: "We are thrilled to see these new hybrid pitches in place. They will make a huge difference to the quality and resilience of our playing surfaces, particularly during busy periods and adverse weather. We are extremely grateful to Rushcliffe Borough Council for securing the funding that has made this possible."
The council highlighted that investing in community sports infrastructure is vital for promoting active lifestyles and strengthening local engagement. RBC’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Business and Growth, Cllr Abby Brennan, said: "We are delighted to support this exciting project through UKSPF, and it is fantastic to see the new cricket pitches already being enjoyed by local teams for both training and competitive matches, helping to encourage wider participation in the sport. Rushcliffe is a great place for sport and physical activity, and projects like this are vital in giving people the opportunity to enjoy our outdoor spaces, get active and stay healthy."
Community Impact
This investment will deliver a significant improvement to the main playing facility, support the growth of women’s, girls’ and junior cricket, and bring the local community together through new fixtures and valuable volunteering opportunities. The project received support from the UK Government’s UKSPF. Plumtree Cricket Club is now ready to welcome players, members, and visitors to experience the improved ground during the upcoming season.
