Prince William Reveals Why Aston Villa 'Really Resonates' with Him
Prince William on His Aston Villa Passion

Prince William, the Duke of Cornwall, has shared exclusive insights into his enduring support for Aston Villa during a heartfelt interview on Heart Breakfast. Speaking with hosts Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston, the royal revealed why the football club holds such a special place in his heart.

A Lifelong Fan

William, a long-standing Aston Villa supporter, discussed his passion for the team following their recent victory in the European League. Photos of the Duke celebrating the win circulated widely, capturing his unbridled joy. Reflecting on the moment, he laughed: "I try and remind myself that I am just a football fan and that I'm going there to enjoy myself but then I see the pictures the following day and I realise a lot of people are watching you - stop doing that! But I got really into the moment and it was a huge one for all Villa fans."

Why Aston Villa?

Many royal fans find it unusual that Prince William supports Aston Villa, but he explained that the club's principles and values have kept him loyal over the years. He recounted: "Childhood friends of mine took me to my first Villa game in about 2000 and I remember sitting there thinking this is an amazing atmosphere. No one knew I was there and I got totally involved in the whole scene. The whole club just felt fantastic. It connected with me. Values as well. It's an old English club and I thought that was fantastic."

After more than two decades of support, William admitted that Aston Villa feels like another family. "I've known some of the guys for a very long time now. It's a real family club," he said. "It's a big local club and that's the bit that really resonates with me. It feels like a second family."

Family Support

William has successfully converted his son Prince George into an Aston Villa fan, though he noted that Princess Charlotte leans more towards Chelsea. The interview also touched on his new hospital wing in the Isles of Scilly and life with his wife Kate, who is recovering from cancer.
