August Priske has admitted he is 'gutted' not to have opened his Birmingham City account in Saturday's victory over Bristol City. The Danish striker has started and finished Blues' last five games, and his presence has coincided with an improved run of results.
Priske has been the perfect foil for those around him in Blues' attack, even if the goals haven't flowed since his £6million transfer from Djurgården. He won't come any closer to breaking his duck than the cute dinked finish that bounced back off the post in the second half on Saturday. Moments later, Priske flashed a volley on his weaker left side inches wide of the same post.
"I'm a little bit gutted not to get that goal, but sometimes the luck isn't with you. Hopefully next game," reflected Priske. "It's very direct (the Championship), very intense, and I don't mind it at all. It's about getting that first goal and from there I think it will come a lot easier."
The aerial ability of 6ft 4in Priske is something Blues are increasingly reliant on. They have enjoyed success through a more direct approach that simply wasn't possible when Jay Stansfield was partnered in attack by Marvin Ducksch.
Asked what Blues manager Chris Davies has asked of him, Priske said: "He's been very clear about what he wants to see from me and this is one of the key things, the fact that I can be a presence up front and give us that focal point."
