Ex-West Brom boss Ryan Mason linked with Watford job after 27-game stint
Ryan Mason linked with Watford job after West Brom exit

A former West Bromwich Albion manager who was dismissed earlier this season after just 27 games in charge has been linked with the vacant managerial position at Watford.

Ryan Mason took over at Albion last summer for his first managerial role, having spent a lengthy period as a coach at Tottenham Hotspur. He enjoyed a superb start to the campaign, but the team began to falter and slide down the table. Mason was axed in January following a defeat to Leicester City, with Albion's poor away record sealing his fate.

Watford, meanwhile, parted ways with manager Ed Still at the end of the season after a brief tenure that lasted only a handful of games. Still, the brother of Will Still who briefly managed Southampton this season, endured a rotten run at the end of the campaign.

According to bookmakers, Mason is among the early favourites to land the Watford job. He is joined in the betting by Garcia Pimienta, ex-Southampton chief Russell Martin, former Leicester boss Marti Cifuentes, and departed Burnley manager Scott Parker.

Mason's replacement at Albion, Eric Ramsay, did not fare any better, departing the club with no wins from his nine games in charge. For Mason, it appears he may be back in a Championship dugout next season if he secures the Watford role.
