Callum Styles has admitted he was surprised to be handed two awards for his season at Albion, as he revealed how the West Brom players have kept standards high amid a struggling campaign.
Styles, signed from Barnsley back in 2024, has become a regular starter and fan favourite at The Hawthorns. The versatile Hungary international has been the first-choice left-back for most of his time at the club but has also played in a number of positions, including on the left side of midfield and as a central midfielder.
Interim boss James Morrison described him as a 'manager's dream' after he scooped both the Player of the Year and Supporters' Player of the Year crowns. The full-back expressed his pride but insisted he was a bit surprised by the accolades.
He said: "I was surprised, to be honest. I know personally I've had a consistent season, but there's been players that have also done well. And we obviously weren't where we was at, so it kind of feels a bit like, but no, I feel proud of what I've achieved this season personally. And hopefully we can just kick on next season because this club shouldn't be down there, it should be up there fighting for promotion."
Styles also credited the staff and players at the club for continuing to drive standards throughout a tough season. "I feel like the staff here, they're all top quality and they push the standards and to keep preparing well and to keep on stuff and keep improving. And I've obviously took that on board, turned forward and I'm more conscious of doing the extra bits and the extra bits of recovery to stay fit, to keep playing, to prepare for games. And yeah, I think that's the biggest factor in the consistency and I've just got to keep pushing. And obviously we've just got to push each other, keep the standards high."
West Brom's season has been disappointing, but Styles' individual performances have been a bright spot. With his double award win, he has cemented his status as a key player for the Baggies as they look to bounce back next season.
