Sunderland have been warned to be wary of a 'dangerous' Wolves side despite their relegation from the Premier League, as manager Regis Le Bris calls for a strong response from his team.
Heavy Defeat Sparks Concern
The Black Cats head into their latest fixture on the back of a crushing 5-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest. That result has raised questions about Sunderland's form, especially after a season that saw them surprise many by competing in the top half of the table for long periods.
Having returned to the Premier League last summer after a lengthy absence, Sunderland started strongly and looked set for a comfortable mid-table finish. However, a recent dip in form has culminated in that heavy loss, leaving the team with a point to prove.
Manager's Warning
Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris has issued a strong warning to his players, insisting they have a responsibility to bounce back and finish the season on a high. He also stressed that Wolves, despite their relegation to the Championship, remain a dangerous opponent.
“We all have a responsibility to finish the season strong and we have to push forward,” Le Bris said. “Sometimes you can feel the energy at the end of the season dip, but I don’t think it’s the case. I’m hoping for a reaction.”
He added: “The players are always ambitious but at the same time, we have to stay humble. If you start dreaming, maybe you can drop your standards.”
Wolves Still a Threat
Despite their difficult season, particularly away from home, Wolves have shown signs of improvement recently. Le Bris highlighted their home form and a tight game against Spurs as evidence of their quality.
“They have had a difficult season, especially away from home, but they’ve had good results recently at home. Even against Spurs, the game was tight,” he explained.
“They are trying to generate momentum for next season, so they are playing with freedom and they are still dangerous, it’s clear. This is the Premier League – you can have a difficult season but still have quality.”
Sunderland will be looking to avoid a repeat of their recent heavy defeat and finish the campaign with pride, but Le Bris knows they cannot afford to underestimate a Wolves side playing without pressure.
