Aston Villa have appointed Newcastle United's Daniel Garcia as assistant goalkeeping coach. The 30-year-old Spaniard will link up with Javi Garcia to help coach Zion Suzuki, Marco Bizot and James Wright, although Emi Martinez is expected to leave the club in the final eight days of the transfer window.
Garcia's background and role
Garcia, who hails from Madrid, was part of Eddie Howe's Carabao Cup-winning backroom team in 2025. He was promoted to the senior staff in 2022 after initially joining Newcastle's academy goalkeeping set-up. The 30-year-old originally joined Newcastle from Rayo Vallecano in 2018 and has now moved to work under Villa manager Unai Emery.

On X, Garcia posted: "I've joined Aston Villa as Goalkeeping Assistant Coach. Today the season starts. Proud to be part of it. Up the Villa."
Villa's start to the season
Villa began their new Premier League season with a 4-0 defeat at Brighton, with Bizot preferred to newly signed goalkeeper Suzuki. The Japan international could make his debut for the club in their first home match of the campaign, against Arsenal on Monday, August 31.
