Aston Villa have completed the signing of Nicolas Jackson for £47.5 million, with the fee potentially rising to £65 million through add-ons. The Senegal international arrives as the direct replacement for Ollie Watkins, who is set to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal in a deal worth around £50 million.
Emery reunites with former Villarreal forward
Jackson was Unai Emery's first-choice target this summer, having previously worked with the Villa manager during their time together at Villarreal. The 24-year-old's move to Villa Park brings him back under the guidance of the Spanish coach, who he knows well from their spell in La Liga.
The striker's path to Villa has been a winding one. After a proposed transfer to Bournemouth collapsed in January 2023, Jackson joined Chelsea several months later. He spent two seasons at Stamford Bridge before moving to Bayern Munich on loan for the 2024-25 campaign.
Scoring record across Europe
During his loan spell in Germany, Jackson scored eight Bundesliga goals in 23 appearances, contributing 11 goals across 43 appearances in all competitions under Vincent Kompany. His overall record at Chelsea was equally impressive, with 30 goals in 81 appearances - roughly equating to a goal every 200 minutes for the Blues.
Speaking on Villa TV after completing the move, Jackson expressed his excitement about joining the club. "It's a massive club. I was looking forward to joining here a few years ago, so I am very happy that I am here finally. I am ready to work," he said.

The forward also highlighted his relationship with Emery as a key factor in his decision. "I have known the coach for a long time, so when he called me to explain the project, I liked it so much. Hopefully, we do amazing things together," Jackson added.
He continued: "I fight for the badge and fight for the coach. That's what I will bring, and some goals as well. I am very excited to join Aston Villa and fight for them. We want to win trophies."
Jackson also revealed he already knows several members of the Villa squad. "I knew a few players, Leon [Goretzka], Maatsen and Pau. It's like to go back to where I was, so I am very happy."
The deal marks a significant investment from Villa as they look to build on their recent progress under Emery, with Jackson expected to lead the line following Watkins' departure.
