Tensions around Wolverhampton Wanderers have escalated following a troubling incident at Molineux Stadium over the weekend, when a fan was struck by falling metal during a Premier League match.
The incident occurred during Saturday's 1–1 draw against Sunderland AFC, prompting a partial evacuation of the South Bank after a piece of metal detached from a PA system mounted beneath the stand's roof. The object struck a supporter, who received treatment for minor injuries inside the ground and did not require hospital care. As a precautionary measure, approximately 200 fans were relocated at half-time, leaving a noticeable gap in the stand for the remainder of the match.
Footage circulating on social media, captured by Wolves Fancast, showed interim executive chairman Nathan Shi being pressed on the issue of stadium safety as he walked to his car after the game. Shi was also questioned about why Jeff Shi had been spending significant time at the club's Compton training base and whether ownership group Fosun International had concerns over attendance and infrastructure.
This incident comes after Wolves commenced long-overdue refurbishment work at Molineux last summer, following sustained concerns from supporters. The club has yet to release an official statement regarding the event.
