Rob Edwards gave a damning assessment of his players after their latest defeat at Brighton, insisting he had 'given up on some of them'. The Wolves boss pulled no punches after he saw his side concede twice in the opening stages at the Amex Stadium, with the first goal coming after just 35 seconds.
Edwards' post-match rant
In a stunning post-match press conference, Edwards said: 'We're bottom of the league, it's been embarrassing. They've got to go. Have I not been clear with that?' The comments caused much debate among Wolves fans, with many praising Edwards for his honest assessment, while others were critical of the under-fire manager.
Fan reactions
One fan said: 'I'd rather him play the under 21s than persist with players who don't want to be here. We're going down but it's the way you go either fighting or a whimper.' Another added: 'Let's be transparent, this squad with respect would struggle in Division 1. If we have any chance of promotion next season we need experienced players and maybe a new head coach otherwise we could be in trouble again.'
Another believes his response shows just how big a job he has on his hands: 'We signed rubbish in the summer. I'm 50/50 re Edwards going or staying. The damage was done before he got the job. His hands are tied tactically as the squad is so poor, needs total clear out.'
Criticism of Edwards
While many believe he is still a big issue despite his honest assessment of the players. One fan added: 'So it's because of him we drew to Arsenal, beat Villa & Liverpool. But this isn't his fault. There is no patterns of play. He doesn't have a plan A, let alone B or C. His record is abysmal. Look at Luton in Championship before sacked. We need a fresh start for next season. Bin.'
Another Wolves fan added: 'Obviously Rob isn't to not blame at all but he's 100% correct saying this. The players need to hang their head in shame deeply, totally and utterly embarrassing standards all season. Far too many set their sights on big moves away straight after the 0-4 loss against City.'
More fan responses
And here is a selection of some of the other responses from Wolves fans. 'It's madness how he doesn't see that this is reflecting on him, the coaching, the tactics, the set up, the set pieces etc etc. all this talk and then plays the same team,' explained one disgruntled supporter.
While another believes going after players only leads one way: 'On the pitch it starts with him and finishes with him! Labelling players only leads one way! Whole club has no leadership! Shi interim chairman, Jackson who is well I don't know, and then Edwards! Pretty much lost for word on any of them.'
And another has no faith Wolves' fortunes can turn around any time soon: 'The whole club is embarrassing from top to bottom, going down with a whimper and just pure uncertainty for next season. I have no faith in anyone at this club being able to turn this ship around. It's a clearing up job from top to bottom starting with the useless owners.'
