Wolves Sack Rob Edwards After Stunning Trippier and Jimenez Transfers
Wolves Sack Edwards After Trippier, Jimenez Deals

Wolverhampton Wanderers have stunned the Championship this week by securing the signings of Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez, and have now followed up by sacking head coach Rob Edwards.

Birmingham City and the rest of the division have watched enviously as Wolves snapped up two proven Premier League performers in their quest for an immediate return to the top flight. However, supporters woke up to the news that Edwards, who was only appointed midway through last season, has been ruthlessly dismissed.

New Manager Appointed

The Molineux outfit are poised to appoint 46-year-old Portuguese coach Cesar Peixoto as their new head coach. Peixoto guided Gil Vicente to a sixth-placed finish in Portugal's Primeira Liga last season. The move has shades of Wolves' decision to replace Paul Lambert with Nuno Espirito Santo in 2017, a change that led to them winning the Championship that season.

Wolves' rivals will be hoping this latest firing and hiring episode has the opposite effect. Meanwhile, recently relegated Burnley and Watford are still in the process of appointing new managers. Watford are said to be in advanced negotiations with Italian Alessio Dionisi over taking over at Vicarage Road.
