The Rhostyllen Roses netball team, based in Wrexham, has received a significant financial boost with a £350 donation from national housebuilder Bellway. This generous contribution will cover the team's entry fees for the current season in the Wrexham & Flintshire League, enabling the players to focus on their passion for the sport without financial burden.
A Community-Focused Partnership
Bellway, which is currently developing two new residential sites in Wrexham – Mountain View and Holt Vale – made the donation as part of its commitment to supporting local community initiatives. The housebuilder recognised the Rhostyllen Roses as a valuable grassroots sports club operating at the heart of its development areas.
Building a Team from the Ground Up
Formed in October 2023, the Rhostyllen Roses began as a friendly group of local women who wanted to rediscover their love for netball. Many team members hadn't played since their school days, but the opportunity to return to the sport has created strong bonds and lasting friendships among the players.
The team trains every Tuesday evening at the Brymbo Enterprise Centre on Blast Road, where they focus on developing their skills and enjoying the social aspects of the game. Currently competing in Division 4 of the Wrexham & Flintshire League, the Roses are holding a respectable mid-table position with ambitions for future promotion.
Team Focus and Future Aspirations
While eventual promotion remains a long-term goal, the team's immediate priorities include increasing their game time, strengthening team cohesion, and simply enjoying the sport they love. The donation from Bellway has removed a significant financial barrier, allowing the players to concentrate on these objectives.
Voices from the Team and Supporters
Team captain Megan Williams expressed her gratitude for the support, stating: "Netball as a sport is huge and is growing all the time. Many of us on the team hadn't actually played since school, but getting back into it has been great, bringing us together, creating firm friendships and having fun."
She continued: "The donation from Bellway was much appreciated, enabling us to fund our entry into the league and covering the cost of the fees for our division for this season which is a great help for us."
Jenny Bell, sales director at Bellway North West, added: "Since inception, the Rhostyllen Roses have gone from strength-to-strength and it's great to see the girls having so much fun and developing great friendships from their sport."
"With Mountain View on one side of Wrexham and Holt Vale on the other, the club is at the heart of our developments, and we were delighted to help. We wish the girls all the very best for the rest of this season and beyond."
The Importance of Local Sports Support
This donation highlights the valuable role that local businesses can play in supporting community sports initiatives. By providing financial assistance to grassroots clubs like the Rhostyllen Roses, companies like Bellway help ensure that community sports remain accessible and sustainable for local residents.
The partnership between the housebuilder and the netball team demonstrates how corporate social responsibility initiatives can make a tangible difference to local communities, particularly in supporting women's sports and promoting active lifestyles among adults returning to physical activity.
