Oswaldtwistle JuJitsu Club has secured the Top Academy title at the Great Britain JuJitsu National Championships in Walsall, bringing home a total of 30 medals. The Lancashire club narrowly edged out Wales' Satori JuJitsu by a single point to claim the top honour.
Dominant performance across two disciplines
The competition tested athletes in JJIF Fighting JuJitsu and Ne Waza (BJJ), with many club members competing in multiple weight categories. The squad's depth and versatility were key to accumulating the medal tally that secured the Top Academy crown.
Leading the team were 16-year-old Tilly Holden and 14-year-old Sophia Miller, who both successfully defended their GB National Championship titles. They were joined on the top step of the podium by four brand-new GB national champions: Alice Haslope, 14, Matthew Baron, 12, Phoebe Done, 8, and Daisy Archer, 8, who each brought home Gold.
Debutants shine and veterans excel
Special recognition went to 19-year-old Daisy Holden, who endured a gruelling schedule to capture four medals in a single day. She secured two Silvers in the Under-21 category before stepping up to claim a Silver and Bronze in the Adults section.
The club's two youngest competitors, eight-year-olds Phoebe Done and Daisy Archer, made an unforgettable debut at their first-ever national championship, with both young fighters clinching Gold medals. Head coach Max Robinson expressed his pride in the team's dedication and work ethic: "A massive well done to all the team from Oswaldtwistle JuJitsu, especially our two young debutants, Phoebe and Daisy. Coming away with Gold in their very first competition is incredible. They really did themselves proud and it shows just how much they are listening and concentrating in training."
Next targets: Wales and European Cup
With the national title secured, the squad is already back on the mats training for their next major tournament in Wales this September. Several Oswaldtwistle fighters are also now in strong contention for Team GB selection ahead of the European Cup in Germany this October.
