The former Birmingham City centre-back faces an immediate challenge, with Sligo currently bottom of the ten-team table and set for automatic demotion to the First Division.

Sligo Rovers sit at the foot of the Premier Division, but they are just one point behind ninth-placed Waterford. If they can leapfrog Waterford, they would secure a play-off spot rather than automatic relegation. Purse acknowledged the urgency, stating, "You can have a long-term plan as much as you want, but the big thing for us is winning games over the next 12 and staying in this division. After that you can set your plans for the season after, and the season after that. Right now it's about winning football matches."
Purse's Vision for the Club
Purse, who left Cardiff City after five years working in their academy and loan system, expressed confidence in the squad. "I've watched the last few games back and there's plenty of quality in that dressing room to get us up the table. It's my job to get the best out of each individual player to achieve that," he told sligorovers.com. He also noted that he consulted contacts familiar with Irish football, who universally described Sligo Rovers as "a really good football club."
