Police in Rugby responded to reports circulating on social media of a man chasing children with a knife and attempting to rob them for their bikes. Officers arrived at the scene on Friday, July 17, after the claims emerged online.
Police Identify Alleged Victim
Issuing a statement, Rugby Police identified an alleged victim, a teenager who was reportedly chased on his bike. However, after speaking with the individual and conducting CCTV enquiries, officers concluded that no offences had occurred and no weapons were used.
On Facebook, Rugby Police posted: "We are aware of reports on social media of a man with a knife chasing children and trying to rob their bikes in the town yesterday (July 17). We did receive a third-party report of a teenager being chased on his bike. Officers were on the scene quickly and identified and spoke to the alleged victim who said no offences had occurred. The officers carried out CCTV enquiries and didn't identify any offences taking place or any weapons being used."
No Evidence Found
The police investigation included reviewing CCTV footage from the area, which failed to corroborate the initial reports. Authorities have urged the public to rely on official channels for information and to report any concerns directly to the police.
