Aston Villa Chief Confident Club Will Succeed Despite FFP Restrictions
Damian Vidagany, the president of football operations at Aston Villa, has boldly declared that the club is "going to make it" regardless of the financial constraints imposed by fair play regulations. This statement comes as Villa navigate the tightrope of complying with both Premier League and Uefa's financial rules, which have significantly limited their spending in recent seasons.

Last summer, Aston Villa faced a hefty fine of £9.5 million for breaching Uefa's financial fair play regulations. As a result, the club must adhere to a settlement agreement to get back within the prescribed limits. This summer, regardless of whether they secure a spot in next season's Champions League, Villa will need to adopt a pragmatic approach to their financial management.
Vidagany acknowledged the difficulties, stating in a recent fan forum at Villa Park, "We know we need to struggle and squeeze our minds to be compliant with financial fair play." However, he emphasized that despite these challenges, the club is not halting its growth. "But as hard as it was, I would say that even with difficulty, this club is not stopping growing. Not stopping growing on the pitch or off the pitch," he added.
Criticism of Fair Play Rules
Vidagany expressed his belief that the financial fair play rules are unfair, particularly for teams like Aston Villa that aim to compete with the Premier League's elite. He pointed out that other top clubs, such as Manchester City and Chelsea, benefited from periods without such restrictions. "Times have changed. City, Chelsea, big clubs passed through a moment without financial fair play restrictions, but even with it we are going to make it. We must be ready to overcome any difficulty," he remarked.
