Birmingham residents are divided on whether England can win the 2026 World Cup, as the Three Lions prepare to face Norway in the quarter-finals tonight. While many fans are hopeful, others express concerns about formidable opponents like France and Argentina.
Mixed feelings among Brummies
Eve Myers and Lauren Brine support England but admit their hearts and heads disagree. "Yes [they will win], for the spirit of it in my heart," Eve said. "But, in my brain, I don't think so."
Daniel and Finlay, avid World Cup viewers, called it a "tough question." Daniel noted: "It's a tough question. I'd like it to be, but I don't know, France is looking dangerous. Haaland's looking dangerous in the next game, but hopefully we shut him down, but I don't know."
Hopeful fans anticipate victory
Finlay shared he is "hopeful" for an England win and predicted scenes similar to Aston Villa's UEFA Europa League success in Birmingham. He added: "I'm just excited for the rest of the World Cup."
Ivan Brosnan is another optimistic Brummie, already looking past Norway to a potential semi-final against Argentina. "Hopefully [we'll win]," he said. "I think we've got a decent chance actually. We just need to beat Argentina in the semi-finals. Obviously, we need to beat Norway first, but I think we've got it. We played well against Mexico, so we've got to believe it."
