Unai Emery Dismisses Jadon Sancho Transfer Talk Ahead of Crucial Villa Clash
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has firmly refused to discuss the future of loanee Jadon Sancho, insisting that all attention must be on the team's upcoming Europa League quarter-final second leg against Bologna. The winger is set to become a free agent this summer, but Emery has previously hinted that Villa could offer him a permanent contract if he maintains top performance levels until the season ends.
Sancho's Form and Injury Setback
Sancho had been finding his form in the weeks leading up to the March international break, showing glimpses of his talent. However, he suffered a shoulder injury during a friendly match against Elche CF in Spain, which temporarily halted his progress. The 26-year-old has now recovered sufficiently to be available for selection against Bologna on Thursday, having returned to training at Bodymoor Heath Training Ground on Wednesday morning.
Emery emphasized the collective objective over individual futures, stating, "We are focused 100 per cent in our objective and to speak about the individual futures doesn't make sense." He added, "We spoke a lot during the season, with him and me especially about his task with us, how we need his performance and his qualities."
Focus on Consistency and Team Goals
The Villa boss highlighted the importance of consistency for Sancho, noting that he is a fantastic player who needs to maintain high standards. Emery praised Sancho's adaptation to the team structure, saying, "I think that he is being demanding and he adapted in our structure progressively getting better." He expressed regret over the recent injury, mentioning, "It is a pity that he was injured in the last weeks because he finished before the break fantastic."
Looking ahead, Emery stressed that the immediate focus is on the match against Bologna, with the aim of achieving collective success. He concluded, "Now we are playing matches to check everything and to get our objective collective. Hopefully we can get the best of him and this is our challenge as well."
