Morgan Rogers: Villa Star Aims to Be Europe's Best

Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers has declared his ambition to establish himself among the best players in Europe, as he continues to impress for both club and country. The 23-year-old, who played a pivotal role in Villa's Europa League triumph in May and their second top-four Premier League finish in three years, is currently representing England at the World Cup.

Rogers' Rise to Prominence

Since joining Villa from Middlesbrough in January 2024 for an initial £8 million, potentially rising to £15 million, Rogers has seen his value skyrocket. Reports suggest Villa now values him at £130 million, amid interest from clubs including Arsenal this summer. His performances have marked him as one of the Premier League's most exciting talents over the past 18 months.

Consistency is Key

When asked what he needs to do to improve further, Rogers emphasised the importance of consistency. “Showing it in glimpses and spells is all nice and well, but you’ve got to be able to do it consistently,” he explained. “I look at players in the room, in the training ground, like Harry Kane, Jude, they’ve done it for five, six, seven, eight years consistently, and that’s the difference from a good player to a great player.”

Rogers is determined to reach that elite level. “That next level, I want to take that step, I want to be in those conversations with the best players in England, I want to be in those conversations of the best players in Europe,” he said. “I’ve still got a long way to go and a lot of learning to do and a lot of development, but I think I’m on the right path of doing that.”

Dealing with Speculation and Pressure

The forward also addressed the transfer speculation surrounding him and the pressure of playing for England. “Just take it day by day and enjoy it. They’re the right conversations to be in,” he responded. “That’s the most important thing. It shows I’m doing something right and I’m going along the journey and going along the step in a forward direction. That’s what I want to do.”

Rogers remains grounded despite the attention. “I want to improve and get better. Being in the right circles and being in the right environment allows me to do that. Those conversations are nice,” he said. “I won’t let them get too ahead of myself. But they are nice when people do talk about me in that way or want to put me against other players of class or quality.”

Reflecting on his journey, Rogers added: “It’s just an honour to be a part of it compared to where I was and where I’ve got to. It’s really nice.”
