The match, held at the Stafford Snooker Centre on Saturday, featured high-quality breaks including a century from Thompson in the fifth frame.

Match Highlights

Thompson, 25, from Lichfield, took an early 3-1 lead before Davies rallied to level at 4-4. However, Thompson won two tense frames to secure victory. “I’m over the moon. Mark is a great player, so to beat him in a final is special,” said Thompson. The tournament saw a record 64 entrants, a 20% increase from last year, according to tournament organiser Sarah Jones. “Interest in snooker in the county is booming,” she added.

Impact on Local Snooker

The championship, now in its 40th year, has produced several professional players. Thompson aims to turn professional next season. The event was supported by local businesses and the Staffordshire Sport Foundation. Next year’s championship is scheduled for the same venue in March.
