Wolves Appoint Darren Fishwick to Backroom Staff Amid Relegation Fight
Wolves bring back Darren Fishwick to boost Rob Edwards' staff

Wolverhampton Wanderers have strengthened their backroom team with the appointment of Darren Fishwick as the club's new First Team Sport Rehabilitator.

Familiar Face Returns to Molineux

The move marks a return to Molineux for Fishwick, who previously held the role of First Team Sport Rehabilitation Therapist at Wolves for an impressive six-and-a-half years from March 2017. He now reunites with head coach Rob Edwards and new Assistant Head Coach Rui Pedro Silva.

Fishwick arrives directly from a two-year spell in the Championship with Stoke City. His extensive career in England also includes work with Bolton Wanderers, Huddersfield Town, Fleetwood Town, and rugby league side Wigan Warriors. He has further professional experience from working in Australia with Perth Glory and Armadale.

Edwards' Staff Takes Shape During Tough Season

The appointment is part of the restructuring under Rob Edwards, who was appointed as Wolves head coach last month following the departure of Vitor Pereira. Edwards was recruited from Middlesbrough but is yet to secure a win since taking charge.

His backroom staff already includes Assistants Harry Watling and Paul Trollope, the latter a former manager of Bristol Rovers and Cardiff City. Furthermore, Matt Jackson has recently been promoted to Technical Director after serving as Director of Player Recruitment.

On the pitch, the situation remains critical. Wolves are bottom of the Premier League table and in the relegation zone alongside Burnley and West Ham. Their last outing was a 2-1 defeat away at Arsenal, though the performance was described as spirited.

The Uphill Battle for Premier League Survival

The club's immediate focus is a crucial home clash against Brentford this weekend, their final fixture before Christmas. Chairman Jeff Shi expressed strong faith in Edwards upon his appointment, citing his knowledge of the club and growing tactical identity.

Shi stated the club needed to refresh with a new coach's philosophy, suggesting Edwards is a key piece for a new chapter at Wolves. The upcoming January transfer window is viewed as a vital opportunity to add quality and bolster the squad for the intense relegation battle ahead.

Meanwhile, this weekend's opponents Brentford, now managed by Keith Andrews following Thomas Frank's summer departure, are coming off a 1-1 draw with Leeds United. They will be reliant on key striker Igor Thiago, who has scored 11 goals this season.
