Two local swimmers traveled to Munich, Germany for the European Junior Championships, achieving notable results. Wirral Metro’s Abbie Roscoe reached the final of the 200m Butterfly. After qualifying in 8th place, she secured a 5th place finish in the final and also competed in the 1500m Freestyle and 400m Individual Medley. Ethan Kelly of City of Liverpool delivered fine performances in the 400m, 800m, and 1500m Freestyle, competing against the best from across Europe.
Success at Cheshire Masters
Nearer to home, the Cheshire Masters took place at Macclesfield. Warrington Masters were well represented, with Mark Jones leading the way. He finished the day with four golds, a silver, and two bronzes. In the 50m events, Russ Mason earned three golds and a silver, while Ben Harkin took two golds. Spencer Glover and Clive Roberts each picked up a gold and a silver. Lindsay Houlston struck gold in the 50m Freestyle, and Graeme Atherton did likewise in the 50m Butterfly. Mike Rimmington secured silver in the 400m Freestyle. Newcomer Jeesu Lloyd finished a respectable 5th in the 50m Breaststroke.
Hoylake and Lakes Masters Highlights
It was a good day for Hoylake, with Darren Jones securing silver in the 50m Backstroke and 100m Individual Medley. George Cain touched in 4th place in both the 50m Breaststroke and 50m Butterfly. Mark Jones was also in action at Kendal for the inaugural Lakes Masters Championships, returning home with seven golds from seven starts. He was joined in Cumbria by another well-known local swimmer, Katie Moore, who took gold in the 50m Butterfly and set the fastest time of the day, across all ages, when taking gold in the 50m Backstroke.
Open Water Action at Eccleston Delph
There was open water action at Eccleston Delph with the Andy Godber Memorial event. In the One-Mile Freestyle, David Porter took first place in the Men’s event, just ahead of Phil Mylotte, while Stephanie Sturges was the first lady home, followed by Jo McVeigh. The Women’s One-Mile Breaststroke title went to Anne Snape. The Women's Two-Mile Freestyle event was won by Lori Munro, with Ashleigh Gray in second place and Sue Catterall third.
