Two dedicated on-call firefighters from Oxfordshire are significantly enhancing their preparation for the British Firefighter Challenge 2026 after acquiring a specialist 70kg training dummy. This crucial equipment will help them tackle one of the competition's most grueling events, the casualty drag, which requires pulling a heavy dummy while wearing full fire kit.
Overcoming Training Limitations with Corporate Support
Lauren Addis and Lisa Norgate-Barnes, both serving on-call firefighters, identified a critical gap in their training regimen. Their regular training partner—a 55kg dummy affectionately nicknamed 'Tom' after actor Tom Hardy—was insufficient to replicate the full competition conditions. Without access to a heavier dummy, effective preparation for the challenge would have been nearly impossible.
The breakthrough came when Agility EOR, a company with personal connections to the firefighters, stepped in to fund the purchase of the specialist training equipment. Lisa Norgate-Barnes, who is married to Agility EOR sales director Sam Barnes, approached the company founders to explore potential support options.
