Olympic cyclist Alice Sharpe visited Market Field School in Elmstead Market, inspiring 97 Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils with moderate learning difficulties. The visit, organised by Great Athletes, raised £1,700 through family sponsorships for new sports equipment and enrichment opportunities.
Inclusive Fitness Circuits
Pupils participated in short fitness circuits adapted to ensure every child could take part. The event aimed to build confidence, teamwork, and resilience through inclusive sports activities. SEND teacher Wendy Brown praised the pupils' energy and enthusiasm, noting that even children who usually avoid physical activities joined in with confidence and smiles.
Impact of the Visit
Sharpe shared her journey as an Olympian, encouraging pupils to believe in their potential. Brown highlighted the lasting impact on students and staff, describing Sharpe's warm and engaging approach. The school expressed gratitude to Great Athletes for a motivating and inclusive day, with plans for a return visit next year.
