Loughborough Grammar School's U14 badminton team has achieved a remarkable feat by securing the title of national badminton champions. The victory came at the prestigious School Sport Magazine national finals, which were hosted for the very first time at the Loughborough Schools Foundation campus this week.

A Journey to Victory

The team, composed of one Year 8 pupil and three Year 9 pupils, embarked on an impressive journey across the country. They successfully navigated through five rigorous rounds of the tournament, showcasing their skill and determination at every stage. Their path to glory culminated in a hard-fought semi-final match against Reading School, where they secured a decisive 4-2 victory to advance to the finals.

Dominant Performance in the Finals

In the finals, played immediately after the semi-finals, the Loughborough Grammar boys faced strong opposition from Wilson's School. The team demonstrated exceptional prowess by winning three of their singles matches. Each player delivered a standout performance, triumphing over their opponents with scores that exceeded them by more than four points.

Despite the formidable challenge, the team's precise technique and outstanding teamwork shone through. They clinched the national title by winning their crucial doubles match with a commanding score of 21-10. Finishing the day with an overall score of 4-2, the U14 team emphatically highlighted their immense talent for the sport.

Reflecting on the competition, Director of Sport Jo Hackett expressed immense pride in the team's achievements. "We're extremely proud of the U14 team who showed commitment, confidence and incredible skill at every stage of the competition," she said. "It was fantastic watching them lift the national trophy – a moment made even more memorable by the fact that the title was won on home ground at our very own sports centre."
