Beond Airlines Cancels Entire Summer Flight Schedule with 72-Hour Notice
Passengers have been left scrambling for refunds and alternative travel arrangements after Beond Airlines cancelled its entire summer flight schedule with just 72 hours' notice. The sudden announcement has thrown holiday plans into disarray, with travellers facing growing uncertainty over their summer vacations.
Complete Suspension of All Routes
Beond Airlines confirmed it will suspend all services between the Maldives and Europe, including routes via Dubai, with flights not expected to restart until October at the earliest. While the carrier initially cited a seasonal break on its European routes, the disruption appears far more extensive.
Flights across the airline's entire network – including Middle East connections – are no longer available for booking, pointing to a complete operational shutdown rather than a minor schedule adjustment.
Passenger Options and Concerns
Passengers with confirmed bookings will be contacted within 72 hours. The airline is offering several options including fee-free rebooking for winter travel, credit valid for up to 12 months, or full refunds.
However, significant concern has arisen after Beond Airlines quietly removed a previous promise from its website that had guaranteed business-class rebooking on other carriers in the event of disruption. This move has left many passengers worried about their travel protections.
Financial and Operational Strains
The business-class-only airline, which launched in 2023 as a premium carrier focusing on luxury travel between Europe and the Maldives, appears to be facing growing financial and operational challenges. Soaring fuel costs have made long-haul routes increasingly expensive to operate, particularly for smaller airlines with limited resources.
Beond Airlines operates a modest fleet of just two aircraft – an Airbus A319 and an Airbus A321 – which may have contributed to its vulnerability in the current economic climate.
Website Changes and Expansion Doubts
Further indications of trouble have emerged online, with the airline stripping back sections of its website. Customer assurance details and previous announcements regarding expansion plans have been removed, suggesting deeper issues than initially acknowledged.
The airline had previously set ambitious growth targets including new destinations, but several of these proposals failed to materialize. This casts serious doubt on Beond Airlines' ability to return to regular operations following its summer break, leaving passengers and industry observers questioning the carrier's long-term viability.
