Birmingham Airport Unveils New Departure Lounge with Wagamama and Restaurants
Birmingham Airport's New Lounge and Restaurants Revealed

Birmingham Airport has unveiled the first glimpse inside its major terminal transformation, showcasing a newly designed departure lounge that will host three additional restaurants and an executive business lounge. The redevelopment, set to open in phases starting in 2026, aims to enhance the passenger experience with improved connectivity and dining options.

Transforming the Departure Experience

The airport has released concept imagery of the reconfigured airside space, located between Gates 1 to 20 and the main departures lounge. This area will seamlessly link all sections of the airside terminal, introducing greater natural light and enhanced runway views. The project is part of the airport's ongoing transformation efforts, which have gained momentum following a record-breaking year in 2025 with 13.6 million passengers.

New Dining and Lounge Facilities

Among the highlights is the arrival of Wagamama, marking its debut at Birmingham Airport (BHX). The 363m² restaurant will accommodate 180 diners and offer a menu featuring ramen, rice bowls, and plant-based dishes. Early morning travellers will also have access to an exclusive breakfast menu with Asian fusion-inspired options.

In addition to Wagamama, two other restaurants are planned, though specific details are yet to be announced. The expanded development will cater to diverse dietary preferences and significantly broaden the airport's dining offerings. A new executive business lounge will also be introduced, targeting the growing business travel market at the regional transport hub.

Strategic Growth and Future Plans

Richard Gill, Commercial Director of Birmingham Airport, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating: "We're delighted to announce these new openings in our departure lounge during this record period of growth at Birmingham Airport. From much-loved high-street brands to BHX-first exclusives, our new dining options will diversify our airside hospitality and provide new pre-flight dining experiences."

He added that the reconfiguration will improve passenger flow and create a more cohesive departures lounge. The airport's Masterplan, due for publication later this year, will outline a long-term vision for growth and transformation through to 2041, building on the current trajectory of increased passenger numbers.
