Foreign Office Issues Cuba Travel Warning as All Flights Suspended Until June 14

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has issued an urgent travel warning for Cuba, alerting British holidaymakers and tourists to severe disruptions. This emergency update comes as Cuban authorities confirm that all international airports in the country are currently without aviation fuel, leading to the suspension of numerous flights until at least June 14.

Severe Infrastructure Disruption Across Cuba

The FCDO stated on Thursday, March 5, 2026, that Cuba is experiencing severe and worsening disruption to essential infrastructure. This includes persistent power outages nationwide and critical fuel shortages. These conditions are significantly impacting visitors' access to reliable transport, medical care, communications, and basic services.

In response, Cuban authorities have implemented fuel rationing, scaled back public services, and made temporary changes to healthcare, education, transport, and tourism operations to conserve the country's severely limited energy supplies.

Flight Suspensions and Airport Closures

As a direct result of the fuel crisis, several airlines have suspended flights to and from Cuba. Air France has announced the suspension of flights between Paris and Havana from March 29 to June 14, with the last departure from Havana to Paris Charles de Gaulle scheduled for March 28.

Additionally, all Canadian airlines and LATAM have suspended their services to Cuba, with other carriers actively reviewing their routes. Terminal 2 at José Martí International Airport, which handles flights to the USA and some charter services, has been closed, with flights diverted to Terminal 3.

Travel Advice for Those in Cuba

The Foreign Office warns that options for leaving Cuba could diminish further if the situation deteriorates. The potential for rapid and unexpected worsening is high. Travelers are advised to:

  • Check for updates from their airline or tour operator regularly.
  • Ensure travel documents remain valid and confirm any required visas for onward travel.
  • Carefully consider if their presence in Cuba is essential.
  • Take precautions by conserving fuel, water, food, and mobile phone charge.
  • Be prepared for significant disruption and ready to change plans quickly if necessary.

This developing situation underscores the importance of staying informed through official channels and exercising caution while in the region.
