Five more flights at Birmingham Airport have been cancelled today as airlines continue to struggle with soaring jet fuel costs. The cancellations are part of a broader cost-saving strategy by Lufthansa, which earlier this month announced it would cancel 20,000 short-haul flights scheduled until October.
Fuel Crisis Impact
The ongoing war in Iran has led to potential fuel shortages and higher prices, forcing airlines to take drastic measures. Lufthansa's cuts affect its six main hubs: Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Vienna, Brussels, and Rome. The airline group cancels 120 flights daily due to fuel-saving processes.
Other airlines, including KLM-France and Delta, have also temporarily reduced flights, while some carriers have raised ticket prices to offset expenses.
