Jet2 Bookings Surge After Rule Change Amid Iran War

Jet2 has reported a significant surge in holiday bookings following a rule change introduced last Friday, which confirmed that no surcharges would be applied amid the ongoing Iran war. This move has given holidaymakers the confidence to book their trips without fear of unexpected cost increases.

Package Holidays on the Rise

Data indicates a notable increase in customers opting for package holidays. Since February, the proportion of people choosing package holidays has risen by five percentage points to 51 percent. In contrast, the number of travelers preferring to book through different providers has dropped by six percentage points to 20 percent, while those selecting accommodation-only bookings have fallen to just 2 percent.

Jet2's Industry-Leading Move

Last Friday, Jet2 confirmed it would not introduce surcharges on any booked flights or holidays to cover cost increases, such as jet fuel. This assurance means that the price customers book with Jet2 is the final price they will pay. Although the company has never previously applied surcharges, it has now removed the surcharge provision across all flights and holidays in an industry-leading initiative.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2, stated: “Consumers want assurance during times of uncertainty, and package holidays provide that assurance. On top of all the protection that our package holidays guarantee, Jet2 is well known as being a consumer champion that goes above and beyond to look after customers. Ahead of a busy summer season, this means new and existing customers know that their well-deserved holidays are in the very best hands with us, and we are very excited about welcoming everyone onboard and taking them on their breaks.”

Recognition for Fuel Efficiency

Jet2 has also been recognized as one of Europe’s most fuel-efficient airlines in a major independent global aviation emissions study published by aviation data specialist Cirium. In Cirium’s 2025 Flight Emissions Review, which assessed the emissions performance of the world’s 100 largest passenger airlines, Jet2, which operates flights from Birmingham, ranked second in Europe for carbon efficiency.

Paul Southall, Head of Sustainability at Jet2, commented: “We are pleased to see Jet2 recognized by Cirium as one of the most carbon-efficient airlines in Europe. This independent analysis reflects the practical steps we are taking as part of our sustainability journey, alongside continued investment in more efficient aircraft and operational improvements across our business.”

He added: “This report reinforces an important point: while sustainable aviation fuel will play a critical long-term role, real emissions reductions today are being driven by fleet decisions, how aircraft are configured, and how airlines operate day-to-day. Independent benchmarking like Cirium’s is vital for transparency and accountability.”
