Two people have been arrested after a car was reportedly stolen from Birmingham Airport in a keyless theft overnight. The Hilux was taken from the site before being spotted by police on the M6.
Officers from both Staffordshire and West Midlands Police used tactical maneuvers to stop the vehicle between junctions 15 and 16. Two individuals were found inside the car and were both arrested at the scene, police confirmed.
Car stealing equipment found
Car stealing equipment was reportedly discovered inside the vehicle. Staffordshire Police's road crime team shared details of the bust on social media this morning (Sunday, May 24).
They stated: "Hilux stolen from Birmingham Airport without keys was spotted on the M6 heading into our area. Teamwork between us, West Mids traffic and NPAS caused the Hilux to stop using tactics M6 J15 to J16. Two arrested from the Hilux along with their car stealing equipment."
Officers shared a picture showing a vehicle stopped on the carriageway next to a number of cones.
This incident highlights the ongoing issue of keyless car thefts, where criminals use electronic devices to bypass security systems and steal vehicles without the physical keys. Birmingham Airport authorities have been urged to review security measures to prevent such thefts.
