West Midlands Police Investigate Epstein's Birmingham Airport Flights
West Midlands Police have launched an investigation into private flights associated with Jeffrey Epstein that operated through Birmingham Airport, following the disclosure of Epstein files by the US Department of Justice. The force confirmed it is actively assessing information that has surfaced in connection with these flights.
Flight Logs Reveal Multiple Journeys
According to flight logs spanning from the early 1990s to 2018, several private jet trips linked to the convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein passed through Birmingham Airport, known as BHX. These records indicate a pattern of travel that is now under scrutiny by local authorities.
A police spokeswoman stated, "We are assessing the information that has emerged in relation to private flights into and out of Birmingham Airport following the publication of the US DoJ Epstein files." This assessment is part of a broader effort to examine potential criminal activities associated with Epstein's operations.
National Context and Calls for Action
Last week, former Prime Minister Gordon Brown urged police forces across the UK to "urgently" re-examine allegations that girls or women may have been trafficked aboard flights to the country. Brown highlighted that information from the Epstein files suggests "a number of British girls" were on flights organised from UK airports.
This development comes as other police forces in the UK are conducting similar reviews. Essex Police are assessing information related to Epstein's private flights at Stansted Airport, while Bedfordshire Police are reviewing materials concerning flights in and out of London Luton Airport.
Epstein's UK Flight Activity
Records show that Epstein's private jet made a total of 87 flights to or from UK airports. Notably, this includes 15 flights that occurred after his 2008 conviction for soliciting sex from a minor. The aircraft, often referred to as the "Lolita Express," has been central to investigations into Epstein's network.
Airport officials have noted that private aircraft operations are handled by independent operators, with immigration and customs checks for passengers on such flights conducted directly by Border Force. BirminghamLive has reached out to BHX for comment on the matter, but a response is pending.
The ongoing police assessments aim to uncover any potential links to trafficking or other illegal activities, ensuring that all available information is thoroughly examined in light of the recent file releases.
