Tommy Doyle has returned to training with Wolverhampton Wanderers just days after making his final appearance for Birmingham City in the Championship. The 24-year-old midfielder played his last game for the Blues in a 1-1 draw at Portsmouth last weekend.
Loan spell concludes
Birmingham City decided against signing Doyle permanently after failing to secure promotion to the Premier League. Doyle attended the club's awards dinner in Birmingham on Sunday evening to bid farewell to staff and supporters.
Wolves assessment
Wolves boss Rob Edwards has reintegrated Doyle into first-team training this week to evaluate the midfielder ahead of the next campaign. Wolves have already been relegated to the Championship, and Brazilian midfield stars Joao Gomes and Andre are expected to leave the club in the summer.
Speaking about Doyle's potential return, Edwards said: "I know Tommy, I've worked with him in my England days with the FA. He's someone that I know pretty well, I know the qualities that he has and I've come up against him in the Championship as well and seen how effective he can be at that level."
Season statistics
Doyle made 38 appearances in the Championship for Blues this season, including 19 starts. However, he lost his place in the team following the arrival of Colombian midfielder Jhon Solis in January.
Eligibility
Doyle is not eligible to play in any of Wolves' final three Premier League matches of the season.
