West Midlands Railway will operate a considerably reduced train service on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week owing to the forecast heatwave. Extreme heat can cause rails to expand and buckle, so when temperatures reach certain thresholds, trains must travel more slowly to maintain passenger safety.
Reduced Service Details
Revised timetables will be uploaded to journey planners overnight. Routes facing a reduced service from Tuesday include: Cross City Line (Lichfield - Redditch / Bromsgrove via Birmingham), Rugeley Trent Valley - Birmingham International, Wolverhampton - Walsall via Birmingham, and Camp Hill Line (Birmingham New Street - Kings Norton).
Advice for Passengers
Travellers are advised to check their journeys prior to setting off on Tuesday, and to only travel on Wednesday and Thursday if absolutely necessary, due to the red Met Office warning for extreme heat. Jonny Wiseman, West Midlands Railway customer experience and commercial director, said: "With extremely high temperatures forecast over the coming days we will be running a significantly reduced service across our network for safety reasons. We advise our customers to check before travelling on Tuesday and to only travel on Wednesday and Thursday if their journey is essential."
