A man has been arrested after a car was driven the wrong way around a roundabout near the M5 motorway in Oldbury. The incident occurred on Sunday, May 24, after a vehicle was reported stolen from an address in Halesowen at around 9am.
Incident Details
The suspect, who stole the car, later returned to the same address armed with a Rambo knife. Police officers were dispatched and located the vehicle on Churchbridge, Oldbury, heading towards junction 2 of the M5.
Armed police made tactical contact on the slip road to prevent the vehicle from joining the motorway on the wrong side. A 23-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of aggravated burglary, dangerous driving, and possession of a knife.
Police Response
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: 'We've arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of a number of offences after we pursued a stolen vehicle in Oldbury. The man was wanted for an aggravated burglary at a home in Halesowen this morning at around 9am where entry was gained and a vehicle stolen.'
'The man later returned to the address in possession of a Rambo knife. Our fast responding officers tracked the vehicle on Churchbridge, Oldbury, heading towards junction 2 of the M5 and a pursuit began. It was driven down the wrong side of the junction 2 roundabout and attempted to join the M5. However, our officers made tactical contact on the slip road and stopped the vehicle, preventing it from entering the motorway network on the wrong side.'
The slip road at junction 2 was closed for a short time as the incident was dealt with. A Rambo-style knife was recovered from the vehicle. The man remains in custody as police continue their enquiries.
