Birmingham Airport Parking Rules: Blue Badge, Drop-off, and Fines Explained
Birmingham Airport Parking: Blue Badge, Drop-off, Fines

Drop-off Rules at Birmingham Airport

Birmingham Airport operates a barrier-less Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system in its main drop-off zones. Since there are no physical barriers, drivers must proactively pay for their stay within 24 hours of leaving. Payment can be made via on-site ticket machines, the NCP Post Pay online portal, or by setting up an NCP AutoPay account.

The official drop-off car park provides a free window for the first 10 minutes, after which steep tariffs apply. For those opting for the Premium Set Down area adjacent to the terminal, there is no free period, and fees start immediately.

Red Route and Fines

All approach roads around the airport terminal are designated as Red Routes, marked with double red lines. Stopping, waiting, or unloading passengers on these roads is prohibited at all times. The area is heavily monitored by mobile and fixed cameras, and stopping even briefly to let someone out on a Red Route results in an automatic £100 fine.

Picking Up Passengers

Drivers collecting arriving passengers should avoid rapid drop-off zones unless the passenger is already waiting at the curb. Instead, they are directed to use multi-storey short-stay facilities (Car Parks 1, 2, and 3), which are a short walk from the arrivals terminal. Car Park 5 offers a dedicated space for collections, though standard hourly parking tariffs apply across all options.

Blue Badge Rules

Special provisions are made for Blue Badge holders. Disabled drivers or passengers can receive up to 30 minutes of free parking inside the Premium Set Down car park, the closest to the terminal doors. To claim this free window, drivers must take their entry ticket and valid Blue Badge to the NCP customer service desk inside the terminal for validation before returning to their vehicle.

Long-stay and Special Vehicles

For long-term parking, the official on-site car parks operate on a self-park basis, allowing drivers to park their vehicle and retain keys. If towing a trailer, the vehicle and trailer must fit entirely within a standard bay; occupying two spaces requires paying for both. Motorcyclists can park for free in the designated sheltered motorcycle parking area inside Car Park 2. Parking a motorbike in a standard car space will result in full car charges or vehicle removal.
