Jet2 Reassures UK Passengers: Summer Flights On Despite Fuel Fears
Jet2 Reassures UK Passengers: Summer Flights On

Jet2 has issued an update on fuel supplies for the summer season, reassuring holidaymakers that flights are on track. On May 20, the holiday provider announced that its fuel suppliers have reported increased production and additional imports from areas unaffected by the ongoing Middle East conflict. This means Jet2 plans to operate its flying programme as normal this summer.

Fears were sparked following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, leaving passengers anxious that their summer holidays might be ruined by the Iran war, now entering its third month. The conflict has led to concerns over jet fuel shortages, which could cause airline chaos during the peak travel season. Additionally, the war has resulted in higher fuel prices for drivers and prompted fears of rising air fares and cancelled flights.

The website MoneySavingExpert reviewed 40 travel insurance policies and found that only a few would cover the financial knock-on effects of a flight cancellation linked to fuel shortages. BBC and ITV star Martin Lewis commented: People's hotel costs, if they book separately, and other knock-on costs are potentially at risk. Once you understand that you have no rights, and they say we will give you a voucher, you suddenly realise you are doing well, not badly.

Another airline, EasyJet, confirmed it is not experiencing any disruption to fuel supply and continues to operate flights and package holidays as normal. The airline also stated it is not making any changes or cancellations. Sophie Dekkers, Chief Commercial Officer of EasyJet, said: We are always focused on offering low fares and with around 40% of our fares this summer still available for under 50 pounds, now is a great time to book. And to ensure people feel confident to book, we have launched our Book with Confidence Promise, which guarantees that the cost of flights and package holidays will stay fixed after booking. We will not add fuel surcharges, protecting customers from increased fuel costs. We are operating as normal, not making cancellations, and are looking forward to taking millions of people on their well-deserved holidays this summer.
