Midlands Hotel Reopens After Full Refurbishment

A Midlands hotel that was briefly used to house asylum seekers is preparing to reopen its doors to the general public following a comprehensive refurbishment. The North Stafford Hotel, situated opposite Stoke-on-Trent railway station, had its room reservations suspended in November 2022 and several booked weddings were cancelled, leaving couples devastated.

Hotel's Transition and Refurbishment

The hotel ceased operating as an asylum seeker accommodation in January 2024. Since then, Britannia Hotels, which continues to manage the venue, has overseen a full refurbishment. A post on the hotel's Facebook page announced: "The countdown has officially begun. We are excited to announce that the grand opening of North Stafford Hotel is just around the corner following a full refurbishment. The transformation of North Stafford Hotel is truly something special. Get ready to experience a fresh new look, enhanced comfort, and a welcoming atmosphere like never before. Whether you're staying with us or just visiting, we can't wait to show you what we've been working on."

Mixed Reactions from the Public

The announcement received a mixed response on social media. Some expressed delight at the hotel's revival. Hayley commented: "We had our wedding reception in that room 3rd of May 2008, it would be nice to visit again." Michelle added: "So lovely to see this." Christine wrote: "Brilliant to see this hotel restored and ready for use again." However, others were less enthusiastic. Jackie remarked: "Now you want people come back after cancellations of weddings and parties." Trevor stated: "Wouldn't spend a penny in there."
